The Indian Women’s Association (IWA) was established in 1998 by founder member and first Patron Mrs. Lalitha Nayar, wife of the Ambassador of India to Kuwait, HE Mr. B.M.C. Nayar. The late Mrs. Sudha Gupta was the first President of the association. Subsequently, Mrs. Villie Aria stepped in, under whose wise leadership IWA anchored itself in Kuwait as an organisation that works towards the betterment of the underprivileged.

Over the years IWA’s Patrons have consistently guided and motivated its commitments. Mrs. Chandani Dayal took over from Mrs. Lalitha Nayar, followed by Mrs. Preeti Singh, Mrs. Uma Ganapathi and most recently Mrs. Ira Malhotra.

Under the wise direction and devotion of Mrs. Ira Malhotra, wife of the former Ambassador of India to Kuwait, HE Ajai Malhotra IWA attained new heights. With our newest patron Mrs. Preeti Mehta, wife of the current Indian Ambassador of Indian to Kuwait, HE Satish C. Mehta, IWA pledges to accomplish even more.

When Mrs. Villie Aria retired and relocated, Mrs. Muriel Alphonso took over as President and Dr. Tahseen Khan as Vice President. The duo’s dynamic drive and management has taken IWA to new levels of service and compassion to society. Fresh, hitherto unknown ground was broken and diverse projects of support undertaken. The association comprises twenty five members, ladies from different walks of life who have come together for a common cause. New strength was gained by the inclusion of IWA’s Royal Affiliate Sheikha Omniya Abdullah Mubarak Al Sabah, especially by her ready involvement and support to IWA’s missions.
